NATIONAL BOARD OF REVIEW ELEGE ‘O IRLANDÊS’ como MELHOR FILME

NETFLIX TEM SEGUNDO DIA CONSECUTIVO DE VITÓRIA

Após ganhar 4 Gotham Awards com História de um Casamento, a Netflix continua sob o holofote pelo National Board of Review, que nomeou O Irlandês como Melhor Filme do ano, e melhor Roteiro Adaptado. Embora não tenha vencido em categorias de atuação, levou um prêmio especial colaborativo entre Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro e Al Pacino.

Logo em seguida, temos Era Uma Vez… em Hollywood levando os prêmios de Direção para Quentin Tarantino e de Ator Coadjuvante para Brad Pitt, e temos Uncut Gems, que também levou dois prêmios: Roteiro Original e Ator para Adam Sandler.

Ainda sobre as categorias de atuação, se por um lado tivemos a confirmação de Renée Zellwegger como favorita por Judy, por outro tivemos a surpresa de Kathy Bates como Coadjuvante por O Caso Richard Jewell, novo filme de Clint Eastwood.

Embora tenha acertado a vitória de Green Book no ano passado, o NBR não tem servido muito de parâmetro para o vencedor do Oscar, contudo, nos últimos anos elegeu filmes que sempre foram indicados a Melhor Filme como The Post, Machester à Beira-Mar, Mad Max: Estrada da Fúria, com a exceção de O Ano Mais Violento em 2014, que passou longe do Oscar.

O mesmo vale para as categorias de atuação. Muitos de seus vencedores acabam passando pras categorias do Oscar como houve em 2018: Viggo Mortensen, Lady Gaga, Sam Eliott e Regina King.

Embora o vencedor do prêmio de Filme Estrangeiro tenha sido o franco-favorito Parasita, na lista do top 5 de filmes estrangeiros está o brasileiro A Vida Invisível, concretizando uma ótima campanha da Amazon nos EUA. No lugar de Les Miserábles, outro francês foi eleito: Retrato de uma Jovem em Chamas, o que faz questionar se a comissão francesa fez a escolha certa.

INDICAÇÕES AO ANNIE AWARDS DENOTAM UMA BAIXA CRIATIVIDADE EM PRODUÇÕES DE GRANDE ESTÚDIO E UM RESPIRO EM PRODUÇÕES MAIS INDEPENDENTES

Com o anúncio das indicações ao 47º Annie Awards, o Oscar da Animação, ficou evidente a predominância de sequências dos grandes estúdios: Frozen 2, Como Treinar seu Dragão 3 e Toy Story 4, dos estúdios Disney, Dreamworks e Pixar/Disney. A novidade ficou mais a cargo de estúdios menores como a Laika, que participa este ano com Link Perdido, cuja bilheteria passa longe de qualquer uma dos estúdios acima.

Apesar da fama e das bilheterias, é a Netflix que assume a liderança em termos de estúdio com maior número de indicações desta edição com um total espantoso de 39 indicações, entre longas-metragens, curtas e produções para TV e streaming. Na categoria principal de Melhor Longa de Animação, a empresa investiu pesado em Klaus, que apresenta uma história natalina. Tenho a forte impressão de que se não fosse a campanha pesada, o filme dificilmente estaria competindo nas principais categorias.

E felizmente, o Annie Awards possui uma categoria para produções independentes, cujos indicados sempre levam pelo menos um indicado ao Oscar também. Em 2019, a animação nipônica Mirai, de Mamoru Hosoda, foi o escolhido. Em 2020, dentre os cinco indicados: Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, I Lost My Body, Okko’s Inn, Promare e Weathering With You, a produção da Netflix I Lost My Body tem as maiores chances por ter coletado alguns prêmios e elogios da crítica. E, claro, o filme já está disponível no catálogo da plataforma de streaming, o que facilita bastante sua resposta rápida do público. Se bem que, com a escassez de criatividade das grandes produções e ausência do prestigiado Studio Ghibli na competição, pode haver a inclusão de dois ou três filmes independentes na categoria do Oscar, o que pode favorecer Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles e Weathering With You.

NETFLIX PREDOMINA GOTHAM AWARDS COM ‘HISTÓRIA DE UM CASAMENTO’

PLATAFORMA DE STREAMING CONQUISTA 6 PRÊMIOS, SENDO 4 POR DRAMA DE NOAH BAUMBACH

Pra quem não está muito familiarizado com o Gotham Awards, ele está apenas em sua 29ª edição, porém nos últimos anos vem conquistando prestígio em Hollywood ao premiar com antecedência produções independentes com forte potencial para a temporada de premiações. Acabou se tornando uma espécie de Independent Spirit Award de fim de ano. Spotlight e Moonlight foram os dois últimos vencedores do Gotham de Melhor Filme que acabaram levando o Oscar de Melhor Filme.

Apesar de não ter uma categoria de Melhor Direção, eles preferem premiar diretores novatos com  sangue novo em Direção Revelação, que este ano foi vencido por Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre por The Mustang, um drama sobre um detento que ganha a chance de participar de um programa de reabilitação envolvendo treinamento de cavalos. Já pela categoria de Ator ou Atriz Revelação, o Gotham recoheceu a performance da jovem Taylor Russell no drama famliar Waves.

O grande vencedor da noite foi História de um Casamento, que levou Melhor Filme, Roteiro, Ator (Adam Driver), além do prêmio do público, votado pelos membros do Independent Filmmakers Project. Essa vitória maiúscula do drama conjugal alavanca a campanha do filme rumo ao Oscar, já que no Independent Spirit, o filme teve suas expectativas frustradas com apenas as indicações de Filme e Roteiro, e o prêmio especial para o elenco. Caso o filme conquiste uma indicação para o Oscar de Melhor Filme, será a segunda da Netflix depois de Roma.

Ciente da importância do papel da Netflix nesta vitória, Noah Baumbach, que subiu ao palco duas vezes, ressaltou sua gratidão ao chefe da Netflix, Ted Sarandos, que estava presente, por ele financiar seu filme, e por salvar a histórica sala de cinema Paris Theater em Nova York de uma falência e fechamento. O plano da Netflix é utilizar a sala como ponto de referência para encontros de campanhas e, claro, para as projeções de seus filmes, já que é uma regra obrigatória para concorrer aos prêmios. Aliás, cantamos essa bola aqui mesmo no blog há um ano, que a empresa deveria ter suas próprias salas de cinema para promover suas produções, suas campanhas e agradar ao público, que muitas vezes deseja assistir a alguns filmes deles numa tela grande. Além de História de um Casamento, a Netflix ainda tem O Irlandês, Dois Papas e Meu Nome é Dolemite para promover nesta temporada.

Pela categoria de Melhor Atriz, Awkwafina levou a melhor por The Farewell, sobre uma neta americana que precisa retornar à China para cuidar de sua avó adoentada. “Meu Deus! Nunca ganhei nada. Não consigo nem ganhar em discussões de comentários do Instagram!”, discursou com seu bom humor característico. Esnobada no Independent Spirit, a atriz ganha novo fôlego para os prêmios da crítica e para as indicações do Globo de Ouro que estão por vir. Contudo, vale lembrar que ela não concorreu aqui contra a favorita até o momento, Renée Zellwegger por Judy.

Pelas categorias televisivas, a série When They See Us conquistou o prêmio de formato longo (outra conquista da Netflix), enquanto PEN15 levou o de formato curto.
