Há algum tempo, a TV deixou de ser segunda opção de artistas de cinema. Hoje, temos atores do calibre de Julianne Moore, Jeremy Irons e Helen Mirren atuando em séries e minisséries televisivas. As razões são muito simples: hoje não há espaço para tantos artistas de cinema, e estão pagando bem com a ajuda de patrocinadores.

E nomes consagrados não param de chegar à telinha. Recentemente, o diretor indicado ao Oscar, David Fincher, reconhecido por filmes cults como Clube da Luta e A Rede Social, aceitou proposta interessante de dirigir o piloto da primeira série feita para a internet (Netflix): House of Cards. Seu prestígio atingiu o ator Kevin Spacey e ambos despertaram a curiosidade do público e da crítica. Apesar de bem conceituada, a série ganhou apenas o prêmio de direção para Fincher.

Vale destacar a participação do diretor Steven Soderbergh (vencedor do Oscar por Traffic) pelo telefilme Behind the Candelabra, produzido pelo canal HBO. Segundo o diretor, ele estava com dificuldades de conseguir financiamento dos grandes estúdios e resolveu apelar à TV. O resultado foi positivo: além de vencer os prêmios de direção e ator para Michael Douglas, o filme foi indicado à Palma de Ouro no último Festival de Cannes.

O diretor e roteirista americano David Mamet (O Sucesso a Qualquer Preço) também conseguiu um lugar ao sol com o telefilme Phil Spector, contando com atores de peso como Al Pacino e Helen Mirren, ambos indicados ao Emmy. Também conhecida por filmes autorais como O Piano, a neozelandesa Jane Campion partiu para a TV através da BBC com a minissérie Top of the Lake, cuja trama lembra a série Twin Peaks. Vencedor do Oscar de Roteiro Original por Assassinato em Gosford Park, o roteirista egípcio Julian Fellowes também levou sua experiência de filmes de época para a série Downton Abbey.

Apesar de encararem com tom de piada, parece haver uma rixa entre atores de TV e atores de cinema. Talvez seja coisa da minha cabeça, mas fico com a impressão de que os atores que trabalham regularmente na TV sentem-se um pouco ameaçados pela migração em alta escala de atores que costumam fazer filmes, afinal, estariam lhe “roubando” bons papéis.
