ENQUANTO ‘SOUL’ COLETA 7 PRÊMIOS, ‘WOLFWALKERS’ CONQUISTA 5

Há 48 anos, o Annie Awards costuma nos fornecer uma previsão do que pode acontecer na festa do Oscar, especialmente depois de 2002, quando a Academia criou a categoria de Melhor Longa de Animação. Devido à diversidade de produções, a premiação tem duas categorias principais: Melhor Longa de Animação e Melhor Longa de Animação Independente. Enquanto a primeira é dominada por grandes estúdios como Disney, Pixar e Dreamworks, a segunda permite que produções modestas e em língua estrangeira sejam devidamente reconhecidas, podendo ocupar uma ou duas vagas no Oscar.

Este ano, a disputa maior estava entre o grande SOUL, da Pixar/Disney, e o belíssimo Wolfwalkers, do Cartoon Saloon, já que ambos acumularam 10 indicações cada. Devido à pandemia, a cerimônia deste ano foi virtual e com isso mais acessível ao público via YouTube. Há homenagens especiais a grandes animadores da história como Richard Williams e muitos discursos de agradecimento bem-humorados. Segue link abaixo para quem tiver interesse de assistir ao evento:

Pra quem nunca viu o Annie Awards, é uma ótima oportunidade para conhecer as inúmeras categorias que reconhecem tantos trabalhos interessantes e inovadores. Além das tradicionais categorias de Roteiro, Direção e Trilha, o Annie reconhece Design de Personagens, Storyboarding e Atuação Vocal, que este ano premiou a jovem Eva Whittaker, que dublou Mebh Óg MacTíre em Wolfwalkers. Além disso, premia animações em formato de série de TV ou streaming, responsável por manter o público infantil ocupado durante essa terrível pandemia.

Sobre os resultados em si, claro, havia uma expectativa enorme para que Soul fosse o grande vencedor da noite. Como quase todos os trabalhos do estúdio Pixar, trata-se de uma bela animação, repleta de ideais mirabolantes que mexem com o imaginário. Particularmente, não considero um dos melhores trabalhos do estúdio, porque não consegue aliar de forma tão uniforme o universo adulto com o infantil como já fez em Toy Story ou Ratatouille, além das semelhanças visuais e de roteiro com o anterior Divertida Mente, o que lhe tira um pouco do frescor que poderia ter sendo um projeto de música, ainda mais Soul. Confesso que fiquei um pouco decepcionado nesse aspecto, pois achei que a música ficaria em primeiro plano, e não toda uma aventura astral com reencarnação em gatos.

Mesmo não sendo um dos melhores da Pixar, Soul deve levar o Oscar no próximo domingo, porque a concorrência não está tão acirrada como em edições anteriores. Wolfwalkers pode ser muito caprichado visualmente (só aquela floresta merecia um Oscar), mas peca um pouco na história. Existe uma intenção de valorizar a força feminina por apresentar personagens centrais femininas, mas toda a trama de caça aos lobos não consegue se traduzir numa mensagem mais poderosa que reflita melhor os nossos tempos, podendo ganhar força numa campanha do Oscar. Não que eu seja anti-Pixar ou anti-Disney, mas já que Soul não foi tudo isso, poderiam premiar um estilo diferente de animação na categoria, não? Além disso, o estúdio Cartoon Saloon já vem pedindo passagem no Oscar desde 2010 com Uma Viagem ao Mundo das Fábulas, A Canção do Oceano e A Ganha-Pão. Estou na torcida por Wolfwalkers, mesmo torcendo o nariz pelo roteiro.

De uma forma geral, o ano de 2020 parece não ter sido dos melhores para o gênero da Animação. Gosto da sequência Os Croods 2: Uma Nova Era e vejo ideias interessantes em Os Irmãos Willoughbys, mas o que esperar de um ano em que nem um filme novo do Studio Ghibli nos anima? Será que vão continuar apostando em animações 3D? E vejo essa indicação ao Oscar para A Caminho da Lua como unicamente resultado de uma campanha publicitária (rica) da Netflix, porque o filme em si é fraco e deslocado (parece animação dos anos 90 não-intencionalmente).
